Welcome along to another week and for me the first day of my Holiday!! Woo Hoo! I’m off to the airport very soon to fly off to Marrakesh for the next 7 days, I am more than a bit excited!. It’s been a ridiculously busy wedding season and with my last wedding completed last weekend, I can now go off and relax knowing that my wedding planning work for 2012 is done. But don’t worry, even though I’m away sunning myself, I will still be bringing you your daily dose of wedding pretty but it will be scaled back to one post a day instead of the normal two. Normal blogging will resume when I get back to the office a week on Tuesday.

So onto today’s wedding, which is a fabulous way to start the week. It’s the Rockabilly Wedding of Pen & Jeff who were married on 25th August. The ceremony and reception were both held at Norton Park, Sutton Scotney, Near Winchester; they had 80 guests and it took 18 months to plan. I love this wedding as it’s full of so much character, colour and lots of fun. I love that this couple obviously live and breathe the fifties, they didn’t just choose it as a theme for their wedding day, it makes the whole day so much more them.

How did you choose your photographer?
Mick is a close friend of the owner of the hairdresser’s that Jeff uses for his fifties style and found one of his cards. He had the fun, contemporary style that we were looking for.

The Dress
The dress was by the designer LOULOU bridal and was purchased from “Brides and Prom of Yately”, shoes by Debenhams and accessorised by the bridesmaid.
The suit and bridesmaids
Jeff’s suit was a bespoke suit from “A Suit that Fits”, the bridesmaid’s dress was from my favourite fifties store, “Collectif” in Camden. The boys shirts came from “Rockers England” in the end as the original supplier sold their entire stock to Germany following Jessie J’s appearance on the “Voice”!

Theme
Our theme was a Retro, Rockabilly fifties theme with red and black as accent colours
Food
We had an amazing BBQ and a cupcake tower wedding cake with a red heart at the top, made from red velvet cake. Red velvet cake was discovered in the 1950’s and it is reported that the original recipe came from the Waldorf-Astoria hotel in New York.

Entertainment
We hired a DJ that we knew from the South Rock and Roll circuit. – DJ Peter Phillips. He supplies large screens that display footage of the original artists, jivers or your guests.
Flowers
We had mainly red roses in the table decorations and my bouquet and white roses for the bridesmaid
Decoration
In the Room we had red and black bunting, red chair sashes, the tables had 78” records as name/place-mats with customised Sun record labels. On the walls were black and white posters of our engagement shoot held in Nelson’s Diner. A large glitter ball was hung over a black and white dance floor.

Personal touches
• The bows on the bride’s/bridesmaid shoes were handmade by the bridesmaid.
• All the records were personalised with a Sun record label, stating Pen & Jeff’s Fabulous Fifties Wedding on one side and the guests name on the other
• The women were given retro lip gloss tins and the men had bespoke mint tins with a picture of the groom on them.
• The table plan was made to give the impression of a jukebox.
• We hired a retro photo booth that produced 2 copies of 4 pose strips. The guests could don glasses, hats and moustaches from the provided prop box and bundle into the booth, coming out with a strip to go into the album with a message and the other to go home with. This was an absolute hit!
• On the tables in the evening were retro boxes of popcorn and the cut wedding cake was served on a three tier record cake stand.

Special moments
Other than actually getting married to my wonderful husband, the highlights of the day included my eldest son walking me down the aisle and giving me away and the speech that brought half the room to tears. My youngest son doing the reading – an excerpt from Captain Corelli’s Mandolin – and Playing his saxophone – “Marry You” by Bruno Mars during the signing of the register

Advice
Take real time out to enjoy your day, plan well in advance, and don’t sweat the small stuff, no-one but you will know. But add those little touches.
Biggest surprise
My cousin Mel going into premature labour after the ceremony 5 weeks early and delivering a beautiful healthy baby girl in the local hospital within hours!
